The MARTIN HALL MEMORIAL TROPHY 2017-2018

The Martin Hall Memorial trophy is awarded to the player with the best all-round performance in Divisional and Cup matches. It is based on a combination of points scored and games played, calculated using the following formula;

                 (points scored) x (games played) / (number of games possible)

Hence a player who played 8 out of a possible 9 games, and scored 7 points would have an MH score of 6.2 (7x8/9). Another player who played in all nine games but scored only 6½ would have an MH score of 6.5 (6.5x9/9), thus scoring higher and benifitting from the higher appearances. Default wins also count towards the MH score as they would in a match score, but not towards the percentage, which would be used to separate players with identical MH scores. In the unlikely event that players achieve identical MH scores and percentages, the tie will be broken by;

  • the player with the higher board average
  • re-calculated after eliminating wins by default
  • giving preference to the player in the higher division
  • the player showing the greatest improvement over the previous season's result
